Fajr filmfest to honor late actors Pour-Hosseini, Jalilvand

The 39th edition of the Fajr Film Festival (FFF) has been set to pay tribute to the late actors Parviz Pour-Hosseini and Changiz Jalilvand.

The cinematic figures, who recently died of COVID-19, will be commemorated during the closing ceremony of the 39th FFF.

Born in 1941, Pour-Hosseini graduated in Performance Arts from Tehran University's Faculty of Fine Arts.

He began taking acting classes in 1960 by participating in a course at the Dramatic Arts Office.

The next year, he appeared in Hamid Samandarian's play ‘The Man with a Flower in His Mouth’.

The same year he collaborated with Samandarian and other artists and formed a troupe named Pasargad.

He then began to work at the Theater Office for two years and appeared in a number of plays.

Since 1969, Pour-Hosseini appeared in more than 60 plays and 60 films.

He took part in movies such as ‘Kamal-ol-Molk’, ‘The Relationship’, ‘The Man Who Became a Mouse', ‘Mirage’, ‘The Angelica’, ‘The Night it Happened’, ‘Angel Day’, ‘The Fifth Chapter’, and ‘Leila's Sleep’.

He also played in several series, including ‘Truth Revealed’, ‘Once Upon a Time’, ‘The Chef’, ‘Saint Mary’, ‘The Tenth Night’, ‘The First Night of Peace’, ‘Like No One’, ‘The Rise of Mokhtar’, ‘Madness of Love’, ‘Seven Stones’, and ‘Michael’.

Pour-Hosseini was nominated for the Fajr International Film Festival Crystal Simorghs for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role for ‘The Spell’ (1986) and ‘Avinar’ (1991).

He also received the Fajr International Film Festival Certificate of Merit for his role in 'Saint Mary' (2000).

The veteran actor died on November 27, 2020 in Tehran.

Jalilvand, who was known as the golden throat in Iran dubbing industry, passed away on Sunday in a hospital in Tehran due to the coronavirus infection. He was struggling with the disease for one month.

The veteran actor began his artistic career in 1957 with theatre activities. He also acted in several TV series and movies. ‘Passing Through the Fall’ and ‘The Enigma of the Shah’, featuring Jalilvand, are the two series screened on ifilm English TV.

He lent his voice to famous foreign and domestic actors, including Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, Brett Lancaster, Maximilian Shell, Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole, Joel Brenner, Clint Eastwood and Dean Martin.

Mohammad-Mehdi Tabatabaeenejad, the head of the FFF, announced that the 2021 edition of the event will be held without public screenings and will only see jurors watching and judging the participating movies.

The jury panel of the 39th FFF includes Mohammad Ehsani (cultural manager), Sareh Bayat (actress), Morteza Pour-Samadi (cinematographer), Bahram Tavakkoli (scenarist and director), Nima Javidi (scenarist and director), Mostafa Kiaee (scenarist and director), Seyyed-Jamal Sadatian (producer).

The FFF coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the FFF has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran every year.
